Which Internal
Drive is The Right Choice for You: SATA or EIDE?
|
|
SATA Interface
Serial ATA (SATA) hard drives are quickly becoming the new standard
in hard drive technology. Motherboard manufacturers now include SATA
inputs on their boards. SATA hard drives result in less clutter and
increased airflow in the computer system, because SATA cables are
400 percent narrower than EIDE cables. Some older computer system
motherboards don't have SATA ports, but a PCI SATA controller card
can be installed to add support for SATA drives. If you don't know
whether your computer has SATA ports on the motherboard, refer to
your computer or motherboard documentation or contact the motherboard
manufacturer. |
EIDE Interface
Enhanced integrated drive electronics (EIDE), also called Parallel
ATA (PATA), hard drives have been the standard in the home computer
industry for more than 10 years. Some newer computer system motherboards
don't have EIDE ports, but a PCI EIDE controller card can be installed
to add support for EIDE drives. If you don't know whether your computer
has EIDE ports on the motherboard, refer to your computer or motherboard
documentation or contact the motherboard manufacturer. |

Enclosure FAQ's
Problems with Multi Drive Cases using master/slave single Bridge converter:
Reasons for using similar size HDD inside multi-drive enclosures:
it is much better to have the same drive specification on master/slave enclosures, since master/slave drive configuration requires drives to be alternate drives (master than slave) if one drive is ATA-100 and the other is ATA-133 it may cause timing issues. To make sure there is no problems with data transfer it is best top use same make model drives or at least similar transfer UDMA-Mode HDD.
So make sure not to mix match your old drives with new drives at this will most definitely cause some Gray Hair for you!
So if you must buy a multi-drive enclosure,Buy Master/Master True-Swap Enclosures if you need to mix drives or buy a drive case for each hard drive individually.
RAID Question:Can I Mix (and Use old Drives) Drives for my RAID!
Answer:NO, All Raid Enclosures Require NEW Identical MAKE/MODEL/CAPACITY Drives.
Firewire Question:Can I use more than one firewire enclosure on one computer system?
Answer:Yes, but only if your devices have different ID's and different LUN values associated. (check with our support on more details)
Enclosure Question: Can I use a master slave enclosure with Cable Select Setting?
Answer: NO, this will void your warranty Immediately and there is no fix for this oversight. Our Multi Drive Enclosures Ship with a Large 3-inch by 4-inch TEST Result Barcode and special instructions Label Affixed to the Product. Locate this sticker and Follow Directions.
Enclosure Question: Can I use my old drives with your enclosures?
Answer: Yes and NO, since we have no way to test your old hard drives if any problems arise we will not be able to help! Older HardDrives Consume More Power and Have IDE connectivity Issues when used in MultiDrive Enclosures, if you must use an Older Hard Drive Please Purchase a Single Drive Enclosure or a Multi-BridgeBoard (TRU-Swap) Enclosure, these enclosure Isolate Each drive to a separate Controller for simple Diagnostic.
Trouble Shooting Tips:
1. Check your Power Source
2. Check your Signal Cable (USB/SATA/Firewire)
bad cables are very common
3. Check your Drive Jumper Settings (make sure they are set as instructed on our Test Barcode)
4. Check your Computer Device MGR. to see if there is any conflict with other devices
5. Think Clearly, Re-trace steps that make item fail and use our tech-help form to send a Detailed Support Request.
Delayed Write Errors and Windows
Problems Related to Delayed Write Errors are almost always related to Sub-Standard Host Adapter Firewire Controllers and or Cables (If you have a VIA brand 1394 Host Chip, it is a 99% guaranty that your problems are caused by this substandard chip)
----- 03-03-2006 --- It has come to our attention that more Customers are having problems with hard drive storage devices using ALI or Agere or VIA Firewire Chips, therefore if you have any issues with Mass Storage Enclosures and your host adapter is one of these listed here please try a Texas Instruments (TI) chip solution, they are a bit more money but well worth it!
