Each data block is written on a data disk. Parity for those blocks are in the same rank and generated on Writes, recorded in a distributed location, and checked on Reads. The RAID 5 mode provides a fault tolerance feature by using block-level striping with parity data distributed across all the disks in the RAID System. When a block of data is written onto a disk in a RAID 5 disk array, the parity data is generated within the same stripe. If one of the disks fails, when the broken disk is replaced with a new one, the source data can be reconstructed back through parity calculation. The RAID 5+Hotspare mode uses the same RAID structure, but the last drive is used as a spare disk and will automatically replace the drive itself if it breaks down. The RAID 0+1 mode requires a minimum of 4 drives in an array. The RAID 0+1 mode is implemented as a mirrored array which its segments are RAID 0 arrays. (Taiwan manufacturer and designer of the Data Whale Enclosure) is not responsive to any of our mailings about customers having power supply issues. To date we have received approximately 40 Bad Power supplies from our customers, claiming their unit fails to startup or starts up only once in awhile. This problem was pointed out to the manufacturer by our technical support team when we tested the original Sample over a year ago. Onnto's reply was "Not to worry and that there is no problem". Since then we have sold many of these units and many customers are very unhappy with their purchase. Its sad to say that Onnto is now not replying to any of our mailings to get spare parts and cover shipping costs to the customer for the replacement of a Known Faulty item. QCUSA has taken this issue very seriously and has decided that Onnto products will NO longer be sold by QCUSA in the United States, due to Failure by Onnto Corp. to support Onnto Manufactured and Designed DataWhale products. It is Ironic that we need to stop business with Onnto due to quality Control issues and Design problems, just shortly after receiving many emails that they wish for us to hike up the prices on their products to compete with better quality products based on similarity of price but not on Value Quality or Service. In their emails to us they informed us that it will be best if we sell their new Quad Drive DataTalle enclosure for as much as $399 and not the $239 that we set on our site (since we only pay $199 per unit). In the same email communication we have informed Onnto that it would be very unfair to our customers to charge such high prices for a simple reference board design stuck into an external case that looks pretty but has very little value added features. Their decision not to support our customers will cost Tens of Thousands of dollars in Recalls and refunds to our USA customers. Unfortunately it is unlikely that ONNTO will be able to afford this recall and will not support us in our desire to provide better products and support to our customers. |
