New Firewire + USB 2.0 + eSATA HDD Bridge for all SATA and SATA II Hard Drives
MORE INFO
OXUF924DS
FireWire400, FireWire800 & USB2.0 to Dual SATA Bridge
The chip
The Oxford OXUF924DSA/B is a complete solution for bridging between SATA disks to USB2.0,
FireWire400, and FireWire800 (DSB only). Integrating a full USB2.0 link/Phy and FireWire link, the chip minimises the total component count for an external drive product.
The OXUF924DSA is USB2.0 and FireWire400, while the OXUF924DSB also supports FireWire800
Features
Integrated Dual SATA cores and Phy
Compatible with latest generation serial ATA drives and supports dual disks. Operates at 1.5GHz, assuring a disk interface data rate of 150Mbytes/sec. The SATA interface allows external storage products to follow the current transition of hard drives from Parallal ATA to Serial ATA.
Dual SATA allows connection of 1 or 2 SATA drves with hardware striping, spanning and mirroring for ultimate performance. Alternatively, one SATA port can be configured as an input enabling eSATA to SATA.
SATA II
Supports SATA II port multiplier specification
Integrated 480Mbps USB2.0 Link and Phy
Minimises external component count, supports full and high-speed modes and offers backwards compatibility with USB1.1, 18kByte USB data cache RAM.
Integrated FireWire Link
FireWire400 and FireWire800 (OXUF924DSB) links.
RAID support
The chip supports several RAID functions.
Striping - allows two SATA disks to appear as a single higher speed disk, by sharing the load between two disks.
Mirroring - writes the same data to both disks, so that data may be recovered in the event of one drive failing
Spanning - allows two drives to appear as one to the host machine
Embedded ARM7TDMI processor
With 8Kbyte RAM and plenty of spare MIPs, users have the means to create highly differentiated external SATA drives.
GPIO
12 GPIOs allow easy product customisation
Upgradeable firmware
An embedded UART is provided for use in code development and debug. Firmware can be programmed through the USB port to help simplify manufacturing and in-field updates.
The software
The OXUF924DS USB mass storage device firmware and FireWire SBP2 firmware are fully compatible with MAC and Windows operating system drivers. Product differentiation is easily achieved using C/C++ programming environment. The OXUF924DS shares a common software base with other Oxford Semiconductor devices and is backed by a development kit and evaluation board.
The architecture
Firewire 400, Firewire 800 and USB 2.0 to DUAL SATA HDD Interface
We have started our final testing of this Oxford 924 Solution, we will have a PCB available by end of July 2005. (please check back)
